To report an abandoned vehicle. Honda shadow has been at a bike rack for months. Tag is expired too.

Most likely stolen...

Free bike?

That’s why I called the police. And there’s a slim chance in NC that I could seize it as a “junk remover”. Probably not though since it’s on a state university.

Probably not.

Will probably go straight to surplus where I won’t be able to afford it.

I used to regularly ‘liberate’ bicycles that were abandoned on campus back when I was in school. New chain, new tires, adjust everything, sell for a decent amount. Wouldn’t try it with a motorcycle though.

The police should hand over the title to you after so many days of it being unclaimed. I had a friend in Ohio who got a ‘91 Talon for free that was abandoned on the side of the highway, he called the police and no one claimed it after 60 days (I think that the right amount of time) so they gave him a new title for the car in his name. Maybe NC will do something similar for you?

I bought one for $10 and sold it for $40.

It’s possible. It’s also possible it’s not abandoned and the guy parks in the same exact spot everyday, doesn’t maintain it (front rotor is rusted) and hasn’t renwed registration for a year (expired in May).

That’s definitely possible too. If the front rotor has a lot of surface rust, it most likely hasn’t been ridden in a looooong time. That stuff comes off after 1 30 min ride.

It’s not a lot but it’s also under a shade thing. Also possible his front caliper quit.
